Un LED al microscopio

The light Emitting Diode (LED) is the new light revolution. It is an electronic component, a semiconductor which emits light when current flows. With this simple principle many products since then 60s have been realized, from the displays to the LED TV. The production of one LED however is not easy and the reliability of the LED itself depends on how it is manufactured. With thousands of led manufacturers all over the world it is impossible to know how they are manufactured so it is very important to evaluate the available datasheet and relevant certifications.

When we talk about led efficiency we mean how much quantity of light (normally referred as Lumen output) the led can produce at a certain input current. This value can be seen on the manufacturers datasheet but it important to consider that the same value is give to a unrealistic condition of 25°C of the temperature on the base of the led.

The color of the LED is defined by the Kelvin scale. Normally we refer as warm white a value of 2900°K, neutral white 4500°K and cool white 6500°K. According to the different scenarios it is possible to choose the own preferred color temperature.Talking about CRI it refers to the color rendering index. With a simple concept we can say that the color recognition index is higher as much the value of the CRI index is higher.
